How to View AI and PSD Files on Android

Opening professional design files on a phone used to be difficult. With AI File Viewer: Illustrator and PSD & PSB File Viewer, you can easily check Adobe Illustrator (.ai) and Photoshop (.psd, .psb) files right on your Android device.

How to Open Files on Your Phone

There are a few simple ways to open your design files using our apps:

  1. Using the Folder Tab: Open the app and go to the "Folder" tab. This opens the Android system file picker. You can browse all the folders on your phone to find your file and open it.
  2. Opening from Other Apps: If someone sends you a file on a messenger app (like KakaoTalk), by email, or you download it in your browser, tap the file and select "Open with". Choose AI File Viewer: Illustrator or PSD Viewer. Files you open this way will be listed in the "Received" tab in the app so you can find them again easily.
  3. Using the Recent Tab: Once you open a file, it appears in the "Recent" tab. Next time you need it, just open the app and tap the file on the recent list.

Note that some file manager apps might not send the correct file type signal. If your file manager says "No app can open this file", try opening the file directly from the "Folder" tab inside our app instead.

Saving AI Files for Mobile Viewing

AI File Viewer: Illustrator is a fast and simple viewer, but it has a specific requirement. It reads the PDF data embedded inside the AI file.

When you save a file in Adobe Illustrator on your computer, a save options window appears. You must check the box that says Create PDF Compatible File. If this option is turned off, the file is saved as a legacy AI file. Our app cannot read legacy files and will not be able to display the image. Always keep that option on if you want to view the file on your phone.

For EPS files, the app reads the embedded preview image. If you save an EPS file without a preview, it will not open in the app. Also, because it is a preview image, it might look slightly blurry if you zoom in very close.

Saving PSD Files for Mobile Viewing

PSD & PSB File Viewer shows the fully rendered image of your Photoshop file. Like the AI viewer, it needs the file to be saved correctly.

In Adobe Photoshop, there is a setting called Maximize Compatibility. This setting tells Photoshop to save a merged, flat version of the image inside the PSD file. You must turn this on when saving your file. If you save a file with Maximize Compatibility turned off, the app will show a notice instead of the picture. However, you can still view the layer list and document information.

Also, keep in mind that files saved in some specific color modes, like Multichannel or Duotone, may not show the merged image correctly.

By saving your files with these settings enabled, you can easily review your designs on the go.
